How are sheepskin shoes made? For sturdy winter shoes, BÄR uses specially selected sheepskins of Southern European origin. Since this is a natural product and the hairs do not grow uniformly as they would from a loom, we ensure at every stage of production that both sheepskin shoes in a pair look identical in the end.

Before full production begins, the firmness, direction of stretch, and thickness of the hide are assessed by hand, and the color is checked. Only then do the experienced “cutters” use strip-steel tools to cut out each individual piece by hand. This is how women’s and men’s sheepskin shoes are created through exceptionally meticulous craftsmanship.

For sheepskin shoes designed for outdoor wear, high-stress areas are reinforced with durable cowhide leather.

The special feature of “doubleface” leather is that no second upper leather is used for the shoe; instead, the reverse side of the hide serves as the surface. This means that only one material touches your foot. Our specialists therefore also inspect the leather side for grain and uniformity. To ensure the necessary durability in winter, our buyers select only materials with a thick leather layer and particularly firm, compact tanning.
