BÄR shoes exchange old for new and support people in need
The BÄR concept is based on the natural way of walking barefoot. Since 1982, BÄR has been making beautiful, comfortable shoes with toe freedom, zero heel elevation, and flexibility. Everyday companions for people who enjoy freedom from toe to head. And for everyone who considers sustainability and social responsibility just as important as health and well-being.
From December 1, 2021, to January 5, 2022, every customer who exchanges at least one old pair of shoes—regardless of brand, age, or condition—will receive a voucher worth 15% off a purchase from BÄR Shoes in stores or online. Depending on their condition, the “old” shoes will be refurbished and donated to a good cause to support people in need. If this is not possible, BÄR will dispose of the shoes in an environmentally responsible manner. In this way, shoes that are no longer being used are “recycled.” BÄR is once again emphasizing the high priority that sustainability and social responsibility hold for this family-run company.
BÄR Shoes has practiced consistent sustainability for decades through a responsible product and production philosophy. Environmentally sound development aims to use finite resources responsibly, protect the environment, and take a long-term approach. This is achieved through durable shoes made by BÄR from carefully selected materials. The shoes can be resoled with the original soles, meaning that only the worn parts need to be replaced, as high-quality craftsmanship ensures that they can be repaired even after prolonged use. In addition, BÄR Shoes is committed to social cooperation and assumes responsibility for its employees and their families. Social compliance has been consciously audited at regular intervals since 2011. Both in Germany and abroad, the goal is to employ and retain all employees within the company for the long term. More than 120 employees currently work in Bietigheim-Bissingen, mainly in logistics and administration.

Limited edition “Luana Graffiti” created in collaboration with the Theo-Lorch-Werkstätten in support of Lebenshilfe Ludwigsburg
Since 1982, the BÄR manufactory for comfortable shoes has stood for a positive feeling in life and when walking. The guiding principle “Be free—from toe to head” can be felt everywhere. The BÄR collection consists exclusively of models with uncompromising toe freedom and consciously refuses to follow conventional fashion dictates, instead doing its own thing. Sustainability and social responsibility have always been guiding principles of the Bär family. Being free also means being allowed to be creative and unconventional. BÄR embraces this freedom and makes the best possible use of it.
Together with the Theo-Lorch-Werkstätten, a particularly colorful and unique collection comprising approximately 500 pairs of shoes was created. The basis was the women’s “Luana” model, which received a summery upgrade through the creative work of the Theo-Lorch-Werkstätten. Hand-painted acrylic splashes create a fresh, vibrant look and transform “Luana” into the special “Luana Graffiti” edition. This sneaker lets you enjoy summer in a relaxed way. Breathable and lightweight, it fits wonderfully on the foot. Why choose when you can enjoy both: the freedom of a sandal, the sturdy protection of a sneaker, and the variety of colors of a summer dress. People with disabilities work at the Theo-Lorch-Werkstätten. After a brief from BÄR, they redesigned the shoes and turned each individual sneaker into a one-of-a-kind piece.
Through its artistic refinement, the “Luana” model is transformed from a casual sneaker into a fantastic and striking eye-catcher. Each pair attracts attention with abstract patterns in bold colors reminiscent of Jackson Pollock’s action painting. The “Luana Graffiti” model is available in three different color combinations. The shoes feature labels indicating the collaboration between BÄR and the Theo-Lorch-Werkstätten. EUR 2,003 from each pair sold is donated to Lebenshilfe Ludwigsburg. Inclusion is also a key focus here.
