Proper footwear for your health

Richtiges Schuhwerk für Ihre Gesundheit

Which woman (and quite a few men) hasn’t experienced this: that one pair of shoes they can only wear while sitting because they are so uncomfortable. Or, even better, the pair that just stands in the closet but still had to be bought because it is so stylish.

What qualities must shoes have?

In the past, shoes mainly served to protect us from injuries. They had no other function and did not have to meet any additional requirements. Today, this has completely changed. Shoes have to keep up with fashion, look good, and emphasize our personality. This often means that although they look appealing, they are extremely uncomfortable, have the wrong shape, and constrict the foot. However, the perfect shoe should be comfortable AND beautiful.

The right length and width

Many people buy their shoes too small and too narrow. It is important to have enough room in the shoe, especially around the forefoot. The ideal shoe is neither too narrow nor too wide. It should have an allowance (space from the tip of the toe to the front of the shoe) of one fingertip (approx. 1.5 cm), because the foot slides slightly forward when walking. If this is not ensured, the foot hits the shoe during the rolling motion and is constricted.

It must not be too wide either, otherwise you will not have sufficient support in the shoe and your foot will slide around. This requires an incredible amount of effort from the foot and places considerable strain on the foot muscles. It also increases the risk of falling.

Here you will find the instructional video for determining your shoe size.

Most importantly, the shoe should adapt to your foot, not the other way around. BÄR shoes offer 100% Toe freedom while still providing perfect support.

Do you really know your correct shoe size? It often changes during adulthood due to muscle development or pregnancy.

The right materials

Why should I spend so much money on a leather shoe when I can also get shoes for €30? The shoe material is just as important as the fit. It should be breathable and absorb moisture. Leather is a natural product and behaves like our own skin. It stores moisture and transports it outward, creating a healthy foot climate inside the shoe. If the shoe is too damp, a fungus can quickly develop, which is often difficult to treat. Do your feet a favor and do not put them in poorly ventilated shoes made of synthetic materials (sports shoes with special functional materials are an exception). It is definitely worth spending more money on leather shoes . Nevertheless, they should be changed regularly so that the shoe can air out and has time to dry completely on the inside.

You have one of these too: that one much-loved favorite shoe you would most like to wear every day and never sort out. But precisely for that reason, it suffers considerable material wear. Soles wear down unevenly and seams come undone.
