The Palatinate Wine Trail runs for almost 180 kilometers through the most beautiful parts of the Palatinate. The Palatinate’s longest certified hiking trail begins in Bockenheim an der Weinstraße and ends in Schweigen-Rechenbach. Each of the 11 daily stages has its own appeal—if you do not have time to hike the entire Wine Trail at once, simply choose a section.

Stage 5 of the Palatinate Wine Trail

The fifth stage of the Palatinate Wine Trail is 20 kilometers long in total. It begins in Neustadt an der Weinstraße and ends in St. Martin. If you do not want to hike quite that far, you can shorten the tour and start at Hambach Castle—visiting the cradle of democracy is, of course, a must! This section also climbs high up to the Kalmit, the highest mountain in the Palatinate Forest, offering spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Who is this hiking route suitable for?
The trails on the quality hiking route Palatinate Wine Trail are well developed and signposted, and are also suitable for less experienced hikers. Particularly on the fifth stage, there are several meters of elevation to overcome, and you should be reasonably sure-footed because of the varying trail conditions. In addition to hiking poles, hiking shoes or boots with good tread are recommended.
