Haben Sie einen Hallux Valgus?

Barefoot vs. cushioning: Which
is better for your feet?

Barfuß vs. Dämpfung

Barefoot vs. cushioning

The answer is not an “either-or,” but the right balance.

Many people ask themselves: Should I prioritize maximum naturalness with thin barefoot soles, or does my foot need the protection of cushioning? Experienced foot orthopedist Dr. Manke brings clarity to the debate.

Der Fuß liebt die Abwechslung

The foot loves variety

Dr. Manke explains that there is no single perfect shoe for every situation. Instead, it depends on the wearer, the surface, and finding the right balance:

  • The barefoot shoe: Ideal for maximum flexibility. The foot is challenged, has to work actively, and the muscles are strengthened intensively.
  • The cushioned shoe: A blessing on long walks over hard asphalt. It reduces the pressure of body weight and protects the joints from harsh impacts.
Der gemeinsame Nenner

The common denominator

Whether the sole is thin or cushioned, freedom for your toes is an absolute must to keep the foundation of your body stable.

"Feet need variety. Different shoes, but healthy shoes—and most importantly: room for the toes!"

— Dr. Manke, orthopedic specialist

Walking for long periods on asphalt
Always & Everywhere
  • Barefoot shoes: Encourage the foot’s natural activity and dynamic movement.
  • Cushioned soles: Reduce pressure and relieve strain on the musculoskeletal system.
  • Toe room: So the muscles can work without constricting the foot.

No more other shoes—relief for my feet

Gabriele S.

Slip them on and feel comfortable—my sensitive feet and hallux valgus feel like they’ve reached seventh heaven. I wear these shoes for everyday activities as well as sports and hiking. I’m already thinking about ordering a second pair in a different color.

Birgit B.

I wear these shoes in dark blue. These shoes are fantastic. Super comfortable—you forget you’re wearing shoes. They fit like a second skin on your feet. Best shoes I’ve had in a long time. They are expensive, but worth every penny.

Diana R.

Unpacked, put on, and went for a walk—they fit like a glove. So comfortable! So elegant! So refined! So well made! I’m thrilled. No comparison to the many plastic barefoot shoes—these are worth every penny.

Dorothee H.

Mine have clocked over 1,000 km in the meantime. During my last 100 km march, my feet stayed dry even in heavy rain. Finally, a shoe that doesn’t give me foot pain on long-distance walks.
